Dating with Purpose | Built Different

Today's message centers on the profound truth that our love as Christians should be built different—fundamentally distinct from the world's approach to relationships. Drawing from 2 Corinthians 6:14, which warns against being unequally yoked with unbelievers, we're challenged to examine how our dating relationships reflect Christ's love. The sermon confronts a powerful cultural shift: while 78% of millennials embraced hookup culture, Gen Z is pushing back, seeking commitment and meaning. Yet many of us still wonder—what does biblical dating actually look like? The answer is transformative: dating must be an intentional pursuit with marriage as the goal, founded on shared values and the solid rock of Jesus. We're called to communicate openly about six critical value categories—family and friends, work and school, health, relationships, faith, and leisure—ensuring alignment before moving forward. Perhaps most challenging is the call to honor God in every interaction, even in how we end relationships. Truth-telling, though painful in the moment, prevents deeper wounds later. The HALT principle reminds us to pause before making major decisions when we're Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired—moments when our flesh wants to rush but God calls us to wait. This isn't just about finding someone; it's about becoming someone who reflects Christ's sacrificial, truthful, and intentional love in every relationship we build.
