Igniting the Fire of God (Aug 3)

Fire That Doesn't Burn Out: Igniting Passion for Soul-Winning

In a world that often feels cold and indifferent, there's a fire that burns within every believer - a fire that should never be extinguished. This fire is the passion for sharing the love of Christ and winning souls for His kingdom. But how often do we let that flame flicker and fade, content with our own salvation while forgetting the lost around us?

The story of Andrew in the Gospel of John provides a powerful example of what it means to be on fire for God. When Andrew discovered Jesus as the Messiah, he didn't keep this life-changing revelation to himself. Instead, "He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, 'We have found the Messiah' (which means Christ). He brought him to Jesus" (John 1:41-42). Andrew's immediate response was to share the good news and bring others to Christ.
This pattern repeats throughout the early church. Philip, after encountering Jesus, "found Nathanael and said to him, 'We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph'" (John 1:45). One by one, lives were changed as believers shared their faith with those around them.

But somewhere along the way, many of us have lost this urgency. We've become comfortable in our church buildings, content to worship and learn without reaching out to the lost. We've forgotten that the Great Commission isn't just for pastors and missionaries - it's for every follower of Christ.

The Bible tells us in Revelation 12:11, "And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death." Our testimonies - our stories of how God has worked in our lives - are powerful tools for winning souls. When was the last time you shared your testimony with an unbeliever? Are we too afraid of what others might think, or have we simply forgotten the transformative power of our own stories?
Consider the parable Jesus told about the workers in the field: "Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest'" (Matthew 9:37-38). The harvest is still plentiful today, but where are the laborers? Where are the believers who are willing to step out of their comfort zones and into the fields white for harvest?

It's easy to make excuses. We might think we're not eloquent enough, not knowledgeable enough about the Bible, or that people won't listen to us. But remember, God doesn't call the qualified - He qualifies the called. He promises in Acts 1:8, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

This power isn't just for speaking in tongues or performing miracles (though God certainly still does those things). It's power to be a witness - to share your faith boldly and effectively with those around you. It's the power to see your workplace, your school, your neighborhood as a mission field ripe for harvest.
Imagine if every believer took this call seriously. What if each of us committed to reaching just one person or one family for Christ? The church would double in size! And not only that, but lives would be transformed, families would be restored, and communities would be changed as the love of Christ spreads like wildfire.

But it starts with allowing God to reignite that fire within us. It begins with a willingness to be used by God, to step out in faith even when we're afraid. It requires us to see people the way God sees them - not as projects or potential converts, but as precious souls for whom Christ died.
Remember the words of Jesus in Luke 15:7, "Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance." Every time a soul comes to Christ, all of heaven rejoices! Shouldn't we, as believers, share in that passion and joy?

It's time for the church to reclaim its identity as a soul-winning movement. We are not called to be a social club or a weekly gathering of like-minded individuals. We are called to be fishers of men, to go into all the world and make disciples. This is not just a program or an event - it's a lifestyle, a passion that should consume us.
So how do we fan the flames of this passion? It starts with prayer. Ask God to break your heart for what breaks His. Ask Him to give you a burden for the lost, to open your eyes to the opportunities around you. Then, be ready to act on those promptings of the Holy Spirit.

Look for ways to naturally share your faith in your daily life. It might be as simple as offering to pray for a coworker who's going through a difficult time, or inviting a neighbor to church. Be ready to give an answer for the hope that is within you, as 1 Peter 3:15 encourages us to do.

And remember, soul-winning isn't just about words - it's about demonstrating the love of Christ in tangible ways. Sometimes, meeting a physical need opens the door to meeting a spiritual need. Look for ways to serve others, to show kindness and compassion. As you do, you'll find opportunities to share the reason for your hope.
The fire of God is still burning today. It's a fire that doesn't consume, but rather ignites passion and purpose in the hearts of believers. It's a fire that spreads from person to person, transforming lives and communities. Will you allow that fire to burn in you? Will you be one who says, like Isaiah, "Here am I, send me" (Isaiah 6:8)?

The harvest is plentiful, and the time is now. Let's rekindle the flame of soul-winning in our hearts and in our churches. Let's be a generation that's known not just for our worship services or our programs, but for our passion for reaching the lost at any cost. The world is waiting, and God is calling. Will you answer?
