Filled | The Power of Anointing: Walking in Authority and Purpose
In our spiritual journey, we often hear about the concept of "anointing," but what does it truly mean to be anointed, and how does it impact our lives as believers? Today, let's explore the profound significance of anointing and how it empowers us to walk in authority and fulfill our God-given purpose.
The Anointed One and His Mission
At the heart of our faith stands Jesus Christ, whose very name in Greek means "the Anointed One." In Hebrew, He is known as Yeshua Hamashiach, again emphasizing His role as the Anointed One. This anointing wasn't just a title, but a declaration of purpose and power.

In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus reveals the nature of His anointing:
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, and to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
This passage, quoting from Isaiah 61, outlines Jesus' mission: to bring good news, freedom, healing, and to usher in a new era of God's favor. This concept of favor is deeply rooted in the Jewish tradition of Jubilee – a time of restoration, forgiveness of debts, and return of lost property. Jesus came to bring a spiritual Jubilee, offering restoration and return of all that was lost due to sin.
Sharing in Christ's Anointing
The astounding truth is that Jesus, in His wisdom and love, has chosen to share His anointing with us. As believers, we are called to continue His mission, empowered by the same Holy Spirit that anointed Him. This shared anointing comes with both power and responsibility.

We are entrusted with the authority to:
1. Publicly demonstrate the love and power of Christ
2. Bind and loose spiritual forces (Matthew 16:19)
3. Declare healing for the sick (James 5:14)
4. Anoint our homes and households for protection and blessing
This authority is not to be taken lightly or used carelessly. It stems from our relationship with Christ and our submission to His will. As we walk in this anointing, we must also walk in holiness, for the power of God cannot coexist with unrepentant sin in our lives.
The Dangers of Artificial Anointing
In our modern age of artificial intelligence and instant gratification, there's a temptation to seek shortcuts or imitations of true spiritual power. However, we must be discerning. True anointing cannot be faked or artificially generated. It comes from a genuine relationship with God and a life surrendered to His purposes.
We must be wary of confusing talent or charisma with anointing. While someone may have a gift for speaking or singing, true anointing carries the weight of God's presence and the power to transform lives. As believers, we need to cultivate discernment to recognize the difference between human ability and divine empowerment.
Living Under the Anointing
So how do we live under this anointing in our daily lives? Here are some practical steps:
1. Embrace your authority in Christ: Recognize that as a believer, you carry the kingdom of God with you wherever you go. Walk in faith, power, and boldness.
2. Declare God's word over situations: Use your authority to speak life, healing, and freedom into challenging circumstances.
3. Anoint your home and family: Take seriously your role in spiritually protecting and blessing your household. Pray over your children, spouse, and living space regularly.
4. Remove spiritual hindrances: Be willing to let go of anything in your life that competes with God's presence. This might include certain forms of entertainment, objects associated with other spiritual practices, or habits that don't align with God's word.
5. Live a life of worship and praise: There's a powerful connection between praise and the anointing of God. Let your life be a constant expression of worship.
6. Stay connected to the source: Remember that the anointing flows from your relationship with God. Prioritize time in His presence through prayer, studying His word, and fellowship with other believers.

The Transformative Power of Communion
As we reflect on our anointing in Christ, it's fitting to consider the sacrament of communion. This holy act reminds us of the body and blood of Jesus – the very source of our anointing and authority. When we partake in communion, we're not just remembering a historical event; we're participating in a mysterious and powerful spiritual reality.
Just as bread and wine nourish our physical bodies, the presence of Christ nourishes our souls. Through communion, we're reminded of our need for constant spiritual renewal and the transformative power of Christ's sacrifice.
A Call to Action
As we conclude, let's remember that the anointing we've received is not just for our own benefit. We are anointed for a purpose – to continue the mission of Jesus in our world today. This means:
- Proclaiming good news to those in spiritual poverty
- Declaring freedom for those bound by sin and addiction
- Praying for healing and restoration
- Standing against injustice and oppression
- Living lives that reflect the character of Christ

Let's not take this anointing for granted or allow it to lie dormant in our lives. Instead, let's step out in faith, using the authority we've been given to bring the kingdom of God into every situation we encounter.
As we do this, we may face opposition or feel the pressure that comes with walking in God's anointing. But remember, it's in pressure that diamonds are formed. The challenges we face can refine us and make us more effective instruments of God's power and love.
Today, will you embrace the anointing God has given you? Will you step out in faith, using your God-given authority to make a difference in your world? The same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in you. It's time to let that power flow, bringing hope, healing, and transformation to a world in desperate need of God's touch.
