Filled | The Power of Anointing: Unleashing God's Purpose in Your Life
Have you ever felt like something was missing in your spiritual journey? You follow Jesus, share your faith, and strive to do great things for God, but there's a nagging sense of incompleteness. The missing piece might just be the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
The concept of anointing goes far beyond a simple ritual. In Hebrew, the word "meshach" means to anoint, smear, or spread. It's the root of the word "Messiah," which means "anointed one." Jesus Christ, or Yeshua HaMashiach in Hebrew, carries this title as the ultimate Anointed One.
But what does anointing mean for us as believers? It's not about seeking spiritual power from various sources. The true anointing comes freely to believers through Jesus Christ. He doesn't charge us anything but asks that we become vessels filled to the brim with His oil, ready to shine and walk in His purpose.

He doesn't charge us anything but asks that we become vessels filled to the brim with His oil, ready to shine and walk in His purpose.

Anointing in the Bible was reserved for kings, priests, prophets, and sacred objects. It wasn't for the common or ordinary. The act of anointing showed that something or someone had been identified by God and set apart for His purposes. As believers, we are called to be a "chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation" (1 Peter 2:9). We are set apart, different, and chosen for a specific purpose.
The anointing brings three key elements to our spiritual lives:
1. Consecration: We are set apart and made sacred. Just as Aaron was anointed to lead the priestly line in the Old Testament, we too are consecrated for God's purposes.
2. Empowerment: The anointing empowers us to fulfill our mission. Remember how the apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit and suddenly able to speak in tongues and preach with boldness? God takes what is common in us and anoints it for His extraordinary purposes.
3. Pressure: The anointed life isn't always easy. In fact, many experience increased difficulties after coming to Jesus. But as 2 Corinthians 4:7-8 reminds us, "We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed."

This pressure serves a purpose. Imagine an earthen vessel filled with precious oil. When pressure cracks the vessel, the oil leaks out, touching everything around it. Our brokenness becomes an opportunity for God's anointing to flow through us and impact others.
Many of us live with self-imposed judgement and condemnation. But God says, "Your inability, I factored that into my plan." He's not asking us to enter into sin, but to recognize that even in our struggles, His grace is sufficient.
Are you experiencing increased pressure in your life? Perhaps work has become harder, or you've taken on new responsibilities like caring for an aging parent. It's easy to misinterpret this pressure as an attack from the enemy. But what if God is allowing this pressure to extract more of His anointing from you?
Instead of praying for the pressure to be removed, ask God for the strength to stand under it. Embrace the pressure, knowing that even as it increases, you will not be crushed. As the Scripture says, you are "pressed on every side, but not crushed." Let this truth sink deep into your spirit: The Lord won't allow you to be crushed.

To fully experience God's anointing, we must be willing to lay down the things of this world. Galatians 5 clearly outlines the fruits of the Spirit and the works of the flesh. As believers, we should turn away from the works of the flesh and embrace the fruits of the Spirit. But beyond these clear guidelines, there may be other areas in our lives where we're holding onto things that hinder the full measure of God's anointing.
The Lord is saying, "If you would give me this, I would raise you higher. I would open your eyes and ears more clearly. I would send you further." But we often hold onto these things, leaving no room for the oil of His anointing.
Remember, there are people waiting for you to get it right. You might be questioning why you're in a certain place, situation, job, or city. You might feel out of place. But God has you there on purpose. Discern what He's trying to do through you in that place because He has greater things in store for you.
For those navigating major life changes, even joyous ones like marriage, understand that pressure will come. But in that pressure, there's an opportunity for God's anointing to flow. Pray for unity of spirit, mind, and body. Pray for homes to be blessed and fruitful, both with children and in the spirit.
Whether you're married, engaged, or waiting for a spouse, seek God's presence. If you're waiting, use this time to become the spouse God is calling you to be. And for those desiring marriage, take heart – God hears your prayers.
The journey of anointing requires holiness. It demands a life set apart and consecrated, looking and acting differently from the world. As we surrender more of ourselves to God, we'll hear Him more clearly and experience what church circles call "unction" – that urgent feeling of the Holy Spirit prompting us to action.

Are you hungry for the anointing? Are you ready to be activated in your spiritual gifts? Lean into what God is doing. Seek His presence through prayer and worship. Allow the pressure in your life to squeeze out more of God's anointing.
Remember, you carry a treasure in your earthen vessel – the gospel of Jesus Christ. Even if your vessel cracks under pressure, let the treasure leak out. Let your brokenness become an opportunity for God's forgiveness and love to touch those around you.
As you go forth, may you be filled with God's glory, peace, and anointing. May you hear Him clearly and move in obedience. May you be protected in mind, body, and spirit, covered by the blood of Jesus. And may you continually return to be filled again, allowing God's anointing to flow through you and impact the world around you.
