Washed to Walk | Baptism Sunday | Lent Series | Pastor John Eric Zayas

In Gospel of John 13:1–17, we encounter a striking and intimate moment: Jesus, fully aware of who He is and where He is going, kneels to wash the feet of His disciples. In the middle of Lent—a season marked by surrender, reflection, and preparation—this passage invites us to see both the heart of Christ and the posture of those who follow Him. On Baptism Sunday, we remember that before we are called to serve, we must first allow ourselves to be washed. Jesus tells Peter, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me,” revealing that cleansing is not something we achieve, but something we receive. Baptism becomes a visible declaration of this inward reality: we are made clean, not by our own striving, but by the humble, sacrificial love of Jesus. This message challenges us to embrace both identity and imitation. We are washed—fully known, fully loved, and made new. And then, we are sent—to live low, to love deeply, and to serve others with the same humility Christ has shown us. In this Lenten season, as we journey toward the cross, we are invited to lay down pride, receive grace, and embody the gospel. To be baptized is not just to be marked—it is to be transformed. Washed by Jesus, we now walk like Him.
