Why Do You Look for the Living Among the Dead?

Resurrection Sunday is not just a moment we remember—it is a reality we are invited to live in.

In Luke 24:1–8, we find a group of women walking toward a tomb at sunrise. They are carrying spices, prepared to care for a body, expecting death to have the final word. Everything about their posture says: it’s over.

But heaven had already declared otherwise.

When they arrive, the stone is rolled away. The tomb is open. And most striking of all—Jesus is not there.

“But when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.”

The absence is the message.

Day 1: When Death Is Not The End
There is a pattern woven throughout the Gospel: new life begins when something dies.

A seed must fall into the ground before it can grow. Jesus had to go to the cross before resurrection could come. What looked like an ending was actually the beginning of something eternal.

This is the tension we live in—we often resist death. We hold tightly to what is familiar, even when it is no longer fruitful. Old versions of ourselves. Old wounds. Old ways of thinking.

But resurrection requires surrender.

Sometimes the very thing we are grieving is the ground God is using to grow something new.

Day 2: The Empty Tomb Disrupts Expectations
Scripture: Luke 24:2–3

“But when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.”

The absence was the message.
The women expected to find Jesus where He had been placed—but He was no longer there. The empty tomb disrupted their logic, their plans, even their grief.
Sometimes God won’t meet us in the places we expect—because He’s already moved.
We return to old tombs: old ways of thinking, old disappointments, old definitions of who we are. But resurrection means Jesus is not found among what is lifeless.
Reflection:
Where are you still looking for Jesus in places He has already left?
Prayer:
Lord, open my eyes to where You truly are. Free me from searching for life in dead places.

Day 3: Why Do You Look for the Living Among the Dead?
Scripture: Luke 24:4–5

“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!”

Two angelic messengers appear—not just to announce resurrection, but to correct perspective.
Their question is both gentle and confrontational.
Why are you searching for life in what cannot sustain you?
This is not just about a tomb—it’s about our lives. We often look for fulfillment, identity, healing, or purpose in places that cannot give life.
But Jesus is alive.
And resurrection life cannot be found in dead systems, dead mindsets, or dead hopes.
Reflection:
What “dead places” do you return to for validation, comfort, or identity?
Prayer:
God, shift my perspective. Help me stop looking for life in what cannot give it. Lead me into the fullness of Your resurrection.

Day 4: Then They Remembered His Words
Scripture: Luke 24:6–8

“Remember how he told you… Then they remembered his words.”

Resurrection didn’t make sense—until they remembered.
Jesus had already spoken about this. He told them He would suffer, die, and rise again. But in their grief, they forgot.
It was remembrance that unlocked revelation.
Sometimes the breakthrough we need is not new information—it’s remembering what God has already said.
When fear is loud, His Word feels distant. But when we return to His promises, clarity comes.
Reflection:
What has God already spoken that you need to remember today?
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, remind me of the words You’ve spoken. Anchor me in truth when my emotions try to lead me elsewhere.

Day 5: The Sound of Resurrection Praise
Scripture: Luke 24:8 + Psalm 30:11–12
Focus: “The reason I praise like this is because I believe.”
When belief takes root, praise becomes inevitable.
Resurrection is not just an event to acknowledge—it is a reality to respond to. The women moved from confusion to remembrance—and soon after, to proclamation.
Joy is not denial of pain—it is the evidence of belief in the risen Christ.
We praise because:

The tomb is empty
Death is defeated
Jesus is alive

Your praise is not random—it is rooted in resurrection truth.
Reflection:
What would your praise look like if you fully believed Jesus is alive and active in your life right now?
Prayer:
Jesus, let my life be a response to Your resurrection. Fill me with a joy that reflects what I believe—that You are alive.

Closing Encouragement
The two messengers at the tomb didn’t just announce a miracle—they invited a shift:

From death → to life
From confusion → to remembrance
From mourning → to praise

This Resurrection Sunday, hear the question again:
Why are you looking for the living among the dead?
He is not there.
He is risen.

Dying to Live: The Kingdom Principle Jesus Revealed Before the Cross

John 12:20–36

Just days before the crucifixion, Jesus delivers His final public message.
It happens during Passover week in Jerusalem—a city filled with worshippers, pilgrims, and curiosity.
Among the crowds, something unusual happens.
Greeks begin asking for Jesus.
This moment may seem small, but it signals a massive shift.
The nations are beginning to seek Him.
And Jesus knows exactly what it means.

“The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.” (John 12:23)

But instead of explaining the cross directly, Jesus tells a story about a seed.

The Strange Logic of the Kingdom

Jesus says:

“Unless a kernel of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” (John 12:24)

Seeds are fascinating.
When water touches them, it doesn’t simply refresh them.
It breaks them open.
The outer shell—the part that once protected the seed—must crack so life can emerge.
Without that breaking, the seed remains exactly what it always was.
Unchanged.
Alone.
But once it breaks open, something incredible happens.
Life multiplies.

Jesus Is Talking About Himself

Jesus is not simply giving an agricultural lesson.
He is explaining the meaning of the cross.
His death will not be defeat.
It will be multiplication.
Through His death:

forgiveness becomes possible
new life becomes available
the kingdom spreads across the world

Without the cross, Jesus would remain one teacher in one place.
Through the cross, He becomes the Savior of the world.

The Pattern of Discipleship

Then Jesus does something even more challenging.
He applies the same principle to us.

“Those who love their life will lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” (John 12:25)

This is the pattern of the kingdom.
Life comes through surrender.
Growth comes through sacrifice.
Multiplication comes through death.
Discipleship is not simply believing in Jesus.
It is following the same pattern He followed.

The Breaking We Resist

Many of us want growth without breaking.
Transformation without surrender.
Purpose without sacrifice.
But seeds do not grow that way.
God often uses seasons that feel uncomfortable—uncertain, even painful—to reshape us.
Like a gardener pruning a tree, God carefully removes what prevents healthy growth.
Not to destroy us.
But to multiply life through us.

Walking in the Light

Jesus closes His final public message with urgency:

“Walk while you have the light.” (John 12:35)

The invitation is clear.
Step into the light.
Follow Him.
Trust Him even when surrender feels costly.
Because in the kingdom of God, the paradox is always true:
Where there is death, there is multiplication.
Jesus died so that life could spread across the earth.
And He invites every disciple to live the same way.

Die to live.

Measuring Faith: From The Crowd To Commitment

There’s a difference between being in the crowd and actually knowing Jesus.

In John 12:37–50, we see people who witnessed miracles, heard truth, and experienced the power of God—yet still didn’t believe. They showed up, they watched, they benefited… but they never truly surrendered.

And if we’re honest, that tension still exists today.

It’s easy to follow Jesus for what He provides—peace, healing, breakthrough, direction. But what happens when He asks us to stand? To remain unmoved? To love Him beyond what we receive?

Real faith is not built on what Jesus does for us—it’s built on who He is.

The crowd wanted a Savior who would meet their expectations. They shouted “Hosanna,” but misunderstood His mission. They wanted freedom from Rome—but Jesus came to offer something deeper: freedom from sin, and a relationship that would transform their lives forever.

And still… many didn’t choose Him.

This is the invitation for us today:
Don’t just stand in the crowd—stand with Jesus.

Because the truth is, you can do all the right things—serve, speak, show up—and still miss Him. As Matthew 7:22–23 reminds us, it’s possible to move in power and still not be known by Him.

But we were never created for surface-level faith.

We were created to be the bride—to love Jesus with a depth, intimacy, and commitment that the world cannot understand. A love that isn’t transactional, but transformational.

A love that says:
“Even if You don’t do another thing for me—I choose You.”

So today, choose Him again.
Choose to stand.
Choose to remain.
Choose to go deeper.
Because there is life, truth, and fullness found in Jesus—and in Jesus alone.

Lent invites us into reflection. Into surrender. Into costly devotion.

This Sunday at GP Church, Pastor JohnEric Zayas asked a question that lingers long after the message ends:
What will your house be made of?

In John 12:1–11, we see a house filled with tension, worship, criticism, and resurrection power all at once. Mary breaks open an alabaster jar — something precious, expensive, deeply personal. As she pours it on Jesus’ feet, Scripture tells us, “the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.”

Worship changes atmospheres.

But in the same room, Judas criticizes. Lazarus sits as living proof of resurrection. The crowd gathers because something undeniable is happening.

Every house carries something.

The question isn’t if your life will influence others — it’s what it will release when people step inside.

At GP, we believe we are in a Year of Greater Works. And we’re seeing God move. Not hype. Not performance. Presence. After service, we prayed together for the gift of tongues in our house — hungry for more of the Spirit, not to keep it contained, but to let it overflow.

We don’t want to build houses of comfort.
We don’t want to build houses of image.
We don’t want to build houses of quiet Christianity.
We want to build houses of worship.

Houses of surrender.
Houses where resurrection lives.
Houses where the Spirit is welcome.
Houses so filled with Jesus that anyone who walks in gets a taste and never looks back.

This Lent, consider what you’re building.

Because one day, someone will walk into your life and breathe in whatever fills it.

Let it be Jesus.

We have concluded our six-week series, I Am A Child of God, with a powerful reminder from Proverbs 24:16:
“Though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again…”
Pastor John Zayas reminded us that endurance is the evidence of spiritual maturity. Being a child of God does not exempt us from hardship. It equips us to overcome it.

Falling is inevitable. Staying down is optional.
The righteous fall — but they rise because:

Their identity is secure.
Their faith is anchored.
Their hope is eternal.
Their God is faithful.

The wicked stumble in crisis because they lack foundation. But when a child of God falls, grace lifts them.

This series has reminded us:

We are chosen.
We are grafted in.
We are growing.
And we are resilient.

Unwavering faith overthrows the schemes of the enemy. Getting back up silences doubt. Endurance declares, “God is not finished with me.”

As we move forward, may we remember:
Your fall does not cancel your calling.
Your setback does not erase your sonship.
Your struggle does not negate your identity.
Children of God rise again.
And again.
And again.
Because our Father is faithful.

In our faith journey, growth may be inevitable, but maturity is intentional. God doesn’t just call us to be connected to Him—He calls us to thrive, bear fruit, and flourish in His family. Romans 11:17 and Micah 4:4 beautifully illustrate this spiritual principle.
Grafted Into God’s Family
Romans 11:17 says: “But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root…”

As believers, we are grafted into God’s family by faith. Our spiritual nourishment, strength, and fruitfulness come from this connection. Just like a branch cannot survive on its own, we cannot grow or bear lasting fruit apart from Christ and His Church.
Flourishing in Peace and Provision
Micah 4:4 paints a picture of contentment and stability: “…everyone will sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid, for the Lord Almighty has spoken.”
Maturity in the faith brings peace, security, and flourishing. As we grow rooted in Christ, we experience rest, freedom from fear, and the ability to live fruitfully, both individually and as part of God’s family.
The Journey of Spiritual Growth
Spiritual maturity unfolds in stages:

New Branch – Just grafted in; learning dependence on Christ
Growing Branch – Developing obedience, worship, and spiritual disciplines
Fruit-Bearing Branch – Producing love, service, and discipleship
Mature Tree – Fully rooted; mentoring, leading, and stabilizing others

This journey reminds us that God’s desire is more than spiritual growth—it’s growth that bears fruit for His Kingdom.

Reflection for the Week

Where am I relying on my own strength instead of being nourished by God?
What fruit is God calling me to produce in my life and community?
How can I contribute to the flourishing of others in God’s family?

Practical Steps to Flourish

Daily Scripture: Romans 11:17 & Micah 4:4
Prayer: “Lord, root me deeply in You and help me bear lasting fruit.”
Action: Identify one way to strengthen your connection to God or mentor someone in their faith.

Being a part of God’s family isn’t just about belonging—it’s about being rooted, nourished, and flourishing. As we grow in maturity, we experience peace, bear lasting fruit, and help others do the same. Let us root ourselves in Christ and thrive together in His Kingdom.

When the church avoids maturity:

Wisdom from seasoned believers is not passed down
Spiritual resources are wasted
The faith family remains stuck at an elementary level
Potential fruit is left undeveloped

God intends for the church to be a place of impartation, where those experienced in faith nurture and guide those still growing. The stages of spiritual growth—Nepios, Paidion, Teknon, Huios, and Teleios—provide a roadmap for discipleship and transformation.

Why Maturity Matters

When the church avoids maturity:

The Stages of Spiritual Maturity

1. Nepios – Spiritual Infant

New to faith; learning foundations
Spirit-filled living, worship, basic discipleship

2. Paidion – Spiritual Child

Humble, teachable, beginning to serve
Commitment to prayer, deeper study, evangelism, and missions
Learning to walk faithfully with God

3. Teknon – Maturing Child

Learning obedience and producing fruit
Spirit-filled leadership, thriving relationships, contentment
Moves from knowledge to practical application of faith

4. Huios – Mature Son

Spirit-led, responsible, and invested in others
Mentoring, discipleship, spiritual parentage
Demonstrates obedience, wisdom, and fruitfulness

5. Teleios – Fully Mature

Christlike character, spiritual completeness
Love, discernment, integrity, and kingdom impact
Reflects full spiritual adulthood

Reflection Questions

Where do I see growth in my life that has not yet turned into spiritual maturity?
Which stage of spiritual maturity (Nepios, Paidion, Teknon, Huios, Teleios) best describes where I am right now—and why?
What wisdom, experiences, or lessons has God given me that I may be holding back instead of sharing?
Where might God be calling me to move from learning into obedience?
Who in my life could benefit from the spiritual growth God has already worked in me?

Prayer Prompt
Father God, thank You for welcoming me into Your family and committing to the work You have begun in me. I ask that You would not allow me to remain spiritually immature, but that You would grow me into fullness in Christ. Reveal the areas where I need wisdom, obedience, and deeper formation. Teach me to steward what You have given me and to pour into others as I have been poured into. Form Christ fully in me, for Your glory. Amen.

Closing Truth
Spiritual maturity is not optional. God desires a faith family where growth leads to obedience, fruit, and the full expression of Christ in our lives. Grow up. Be formed. Bear fruit. Be the mature child of God you were called to be.

Children of God Through Faith

One Family, One Shepherd
Jesus gathers one flock under one Shepherd. In God’s family, divisions fall away as we are united by faith. Walking together as brothers and sisters in Christ helps us grow in love, maturity, and spiritual strength.
Reflection: How can you reflect unity and grace within God’s family this week?

Living as God’s Children
Being God’s children is a journey. We are called to grow in trust, maturity, and obedience as we follow the Shepherd’s voice. Our identity in Christ shapes every decision, habit, and relationship, helping us live fully as God’s beloved.
Reflection: What step of faith is God inviting you to take as His child?

Prayer Prompt
Good Shepherd, thank You for knowing me, calling me, and laying down Your life for me. Thank You that through faith in Christ, I am Your child and fully belong to Your family. Help me trust Your voice, rest in Your care, and follow where You lead. Replace fear with faith, and shape my heart to grow in maturity, unity, and obedience. Amen.

I Am a Child of God – Living from Your True Identity

Do you ever struggle with feelings of not belonging, fear, or uncertainty about your purpose? The Bible reminds us that our true identity is not based on performance, achievement, or approval—it is found in God. In Romans 8:12–17, Paul shows us what it means to live as a child of God.

1. Teknon — You Belong
The first step in understanding your identity is realizing you belong to God. Teknon, the Greek word for child, reminds us that we are adopted into God’s family by grace. You are deeply loved, chosen, and claimed—not because of what you do, but because of who God is. This is the foundation for confidence and peace in life.
2. Huios — Led by the Spirit
Being a child of God doesn’t stop at belonging. Sonship, or Huios, means we are led by the Spirit. God calls us into a life of maturity, responsibility, and obedience. Living led by the Spirit transforms daily decisions, relationships, and the way we navigate challenges. It moves us from fear and striving into freedom and purpose.
3. Teleios — Growing Into Maturity
Finally, Teleios points to maturity. Our identity as God’s children is a journey, not a one-time event. Growth comes as we leave old habits, trust God’s guidance, and reflect Christ in our character. Spiritual maturity is evidence of belonging and obedience—it shows that we are truly living as children of God.

Why This Matters
When we understand our identity in God, everything changes: our fears diminish, our confidence grows, and our purpose becomes clearer. We no longer live trying to earn God’s love—we live from it. We no longer navigate life in isolation—we walk in the Spirit and grow into Christlike maturity.

What area of my life needs growth toward spiritual maturity?

Truth to Carry: You are not a slave. You are not an orphan. You are a child of God.

THIS WILL BE... The Year of Greater Works

As we've stepped into 2026, we embark on a season of expectation, reflection, and preparation—a time to consider not only the gift of this new year, but also how God calls us to step into this new year. This past Sunday, we casted vision on what it means to live this year with the focus of greater works. Jesus teaches in John 12 that fruitfulness comes not from our own effort, but from surrender. Like a kernel of wheat that must fall to the ground and die to produce much fruit, our lives bear their greatest impact when we let go of control, pride, and fear, trusting God to multiply our obedience in ways we cannot yet see.

Surrender is the starting point. Greater works begin when we yield our plans, comforts, and self-centered ambitions to God’s will. Often, we are tempted to hold on tightly to what feels safe or familiar, but Jesus reminds us that true life—and lasting impact—comes from letting go. When we die to self, our potential expands, and God’s purposes are allowed to grow through us. This is the invitation of 2026: to live with intentional surrender and open hands, ready for God to do something greater than we could accomplish on our own.

Jesus also teaches that love drives fruitfulness. Sacrificial love—love for God and others—fuels obedience and multiplies impact. Living for ourselves limits what God can accomplish; living for Him allows our actions to ripple far beyond our sight. Every act of humility, every choice to serve, every step of obedience positions us to participate in God’s greater works. When love is the motivation, our lives become a conduit for God’s kingdom, reflecting His presence and His purposes to the world.

Patience and trust are essential in this process. Just as the seed takes time to grow, God’s work in us and through us is often hidden before it bears fruit. John 12 reminds us that even small acts of obedience, faith, and love matter, because God multiplies what is faithfully yielded. Upholding this posture calls us to trust in His timing, to act boldly without demanding immediate results, and to live expectantly for the harvest God is producing.

This year, greater works are not only possible—they are expected when we respond with surrender, love, and trust. God is inviting each of us to step into His purposes, to die to self, to act in love, and to wait in faith for His multiplication. As we move into 2026, may we live with open hands and hearts, ready to participate in works only God can accomplish, and may our lives reflect His glory in ways that transform those around us.

Pressing Forward in 2026: Reaching New Levels, Full Faith, and Deeper Stakes in the Ground

As we step into 2026, many of us are reflecting on what this new year could hold. It’s a time for fresh starts, new goals, and bold steps. But as followers of Christ, reaching new levels isn’t about doing more or achieving more—it’s about going deeper with Him, trusting Him fully, and letting our faith shape every decision we make.

Philippians 3:1–12 reminds us of this truth. Paul speaks of counting everything as loss compared to knowing Christ. He models what it means to release what once defined us—our accomplishments, our comfort, even our confidence in ourselves—so that we can gain the surpassing worth of Christ. As we enter this year, the question isn’t just what we want to achieve, but who we want to become in Him.

Reaching new levels requires intentionality. It requires putting stakes in the ground, making clear, unwavering commitments that declare, “I will follow Jesus, no matter what.” These stakes help us focus, protect our faith from distractions, and give us the courage to move forward even when the path is uncertain.

Full faith in Christ is the foundation for growth. It’s a trust that goes beyond what we can see, a confidence that God is working in ways we don’t yet understand. It’s surrendering old habits, letting go of what holds us back, and anchoring ourselves in His promises. Faith allows us to take steps forward boldly, knowing that He is with us every step of the way.

So as 2026 unfolds, let’s ask ourselves: Where are we pressing forward in faith? What do we need to release to move to new levels? And where do we need to put stakes in the ground to declare our commitment to Christ? Growth, change, and transformation are possible, but only when we step into them with full faith and a heart anchored in Jesus.

This year, let’s pursue Him wholeheartedly, press into new levels of spiritual depth, and boldly put our faith into action. Because with Christ as our foundation, the best is yet to come.

Luke 1-2

Advent invites us to slow down and behold the depth of God’s love—a love not spoken from a distance, but demonstrated through presence. This week, we reflected on Advent Love through the words of Mary in Luke 1 and the birth of Jesus in Luke 2. Mary’s song, known as the Magnificat, is a response of awe and surrender to a God who sees, chooses, and lifts the lowly. Before a child is born, love is already at work—reshaping hearts, rewriting stories, and fulfilling promises.

In the Magnificat, Mary praises a God whose love is personal and powerful. She rejoices not in her own status, but in the mercy of the Lord who looked upon her with favor. God’s love turns the world upside down—bringing down the proud, lifting the humble, filling the hungry, and remaining faithful across generations. Advent love reminds us that God’s care reaches those often overlooked, and His promises are rooted in mercy, not merit.

Luke 2 brings Mary’s song into flesh and bone. The love she praised in faith is revealed in a baby born in a manger. God’s love enters the world quietly and humbly, not through power or prestige, but through vulnerability and nearness. The birth of Jesus shows us that love is not abstract—it is embodied. Emmanuel, God with us, steps into humanity to dwell among us.

The angels’ announcement to the shepherds reinforces this truth: God’s love is good news for all people. The first witnesses are not royalty or religious elites, but ordinary shepherds, reminding us that God’s love is accessible, inclusive, and generous. Love does not wait for us to become worthy—it comes to us where we are.

As we reflect on Advent Love, we are invited to respond as Mary did—with trust, humility, and praise. God’s love still disrupts expectations, still draws near, and still calls us to magnify the Lord with our lives. This Advent, may we receive the love that has come in Christ, and may it shape how we live, serve, and love others.

Isaiah 12:1-6

Advent is a season that reminds us to pause, reflect, and prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. This week, we focused on joy, a deep, lasting joy that comes not from our circumstances, but from the salvation God provides. Isaiah’s song in chapter 12 invites us to remember that joy flows from what God has already done—His faithfulness, His deliverance, and His steadfast presence in our lives. Even after seasons of hardship or discipline, God’s goodness gives us reason to sing.

Isaiah declares, “I will trust and not be afraid.” There’s a profound freedom in those words. Fear may still linger, but it does not have the final say when we place our trust in God. Joy is not about ignoring our struggles—it is about anchoring our hearts in the One who is stronger than any fear. Advent joy reminds us that God’s presence transforms our perspective, giving courage and hope even in uncertain times.

The prophet also points us to God as our strength and song. True joy is never self-generated; it is a gift that rises from knowing God has carried our burdens and become our salvation. When we let God’s faithfulness become our song, our hearts overflow with praise. Even when life feels heavy, worship reorients us to the reality of God’s power and love.

What’s more, joy is meant to be shared. Isaiah calls us to proclaim God’s deeds, to sing and shout among the nations. When we testify to God’s goodness, our joy multiplies and spreads, pointing others to the One who saves. Advent is a season of anticipation, but it is also a season of declaration—our gratitude becomes a light to those around us.

Finally, the chapter reminds us that God is near. “Great is the Holy One of Israel among you.” Our joy is rooted not in a distant promise, but in the reality that God draws close through Jesus. This is the heart of Advent: Emmanuel, God with us. Because He is near, joy is not fleeting or dependent on life’s circumstances—it is steadfast, enduring, and overflowing.
As we reflect this week, may we allow the reality of Christ’s presence to fill our hearts with joy, turning our gratitude into praise and our waiting into celebration.

Advent Week 2: The Way of Peace

Advent invites us into a rhythm of slowing down, lifting our eyes, and remembering that God steps into history—and into our lives—with purpose. As we enter the second week of Advent, we turn our attention to a theme our world longs for more than ever: Peace.

Isaiah 40:1–5 opens with a surprising and tender command: “Comfort, comfort my people.” These are not the words of a distant ruler but of a loving Father. Before God calls His people to repentance or renewal, He begins with comfort. This is the heartbeat of biblical peace. It is not a fragile calm built on perfect circumstances. It is not a momentary relief that fades when life shifts. God’s peace begins with God’s presence—and His presence meets us right where we are.

Isaiah goes on to describe valleys lifted, mountains made low, and crooked paths straightened. These images remind us that God is not asking us to engineer our own peace. He is the One who removes obstacles, heals wounds, and makes a way where there seemed to be none. Throughout Scripture, this leveling work is always God’s work—never the result of human striving. Peace, then, is not something we manufacture. It is something we receive.
And in Jesus, the Prince of Peace, this promise becomes flesh and blood. Christ enters our wilderness—our fear, our chaos, our hidden struggles—not to judge us from afar but to walk with us, restore us, and bring us home. He brings a peace that the world cannot give because He gives Himself. His presence steadies us in seasons of uncertainty, comforts us in grief, and empowers us to live with hope even when our circumstances have not yet changed.

Advent reminds us that peace has come—and peace is coming. We look back to Christ’s first coming in humility, and we look ahead to His return in glory, when perfect peace will reign forever. This dual posture helps us live with holy anticipation. We can rest in what God has already done while longing for the fullness of what He will one day complete.
In this season, we are invited to quiet our hearts in a loud world. To make space for stillness. To reflect on the places within us that feel like valleys of discouragement or mountains of challenge. These are the very places God longs to meet us with comfort and renewal. Advent teaches us that peace isn’t the absence of struggle—it is the assurance that God is near, working, and faithful.

As we journey through this week, may we become people who carry God’s peace into our homes, workplaces, relationships, and communities. Real peace is not passive; it is lived. It moves toward reconciliation. It listens before speaking. It serves the weary and encourages the discouraged. It creates an atmosphere where God’s presence can be felt.

May these Advent days lead you into deeper stillness, renewed trust, and a refreshed awareness of the God who speaks comfort over you.
The valleys will be lifted. The mountains will be leveled. The path will be made straight.

The Prince of Peace is near.

Advent Week 1: Hope in the Messiah

As we step into the Advent season, our hearts turn toward one of the most powerful themes in the Christian faith: HOPE. Not the shallow hope our culture offers—“I hope things get better,” “I hope it works out”—but the deep, unshakeable hope that comes from God Himself. This past Sunday, our church opened Advent with Isaiah 9:1–7, a timeless prophecy reminding us that even in the darkest seasons, God sends light.

A Promise Spoken in Darkness
Isaiah delivers his message to a people living in fear, uncertainty, and spiritual heaviness. Yet it’s into this deep darkness that God speaks a promise: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light.” This is the heart of Advent. It acknowledges the reality of darkness but declares the greater reality of light.
Hope is not denial—it is divine interruption.
The gospel tells us that we don’t climb our way out of darkness. Instead, God stepped down into it. Jesus, the promised Messiah, is the Light who shatters the shadows of sin, fear, and brokenness.

The Messiah We Needed
Isaiah doesn’t just promise light—he promises a person. A Child. A Messiah who would carry the government of God and bring peace that has no end. Jesus fulfills every title Isaiah names:

Wonderful Counselor – wisdom for the confused
Mighty God – strength for the weak
Everlasting Father – love for the lonely
Prince of Peace – calm for the anxious

Hope isn’t an emotion. Hope is a Savior.

Hope That Shapes How We Live
Biblical hope is active. It isn’t passive wishing—it is confidence in God’s character. It’s the assurance that God is working even when we can’t see it. This kind of hope shapes how we wait, how we pray, how we endure hardship, and how we trust God in the unknown.

As we reflected this week, hope influences every part of our spiritual life:

It gives courage when the path ahead feels unclear
It steadies us when circumstances shake us
It anchors us when we’re tempted to give up
It compels us to look for God’s light in every situation

Advent teaches us to wait with expectation—not resignation.

Looking Back, Looking Forward
Advent is a season of holy tension. We look back to the birth of Christ—the moment hope broke into human history. And we look forward to His return—the day when darkness will be no more.
The same Jesus who came as a baby will come again as King.
This is the foundation of our hope. Not that life gets easier, but that God is faithful. Not that we avoid trouble, but that we are never alone. Not that the world gives peace, but that Christ Himself is our peace.

Where Do You Need Hope Right Now?
During Sunday’s discipleship conversations, we reflected on the places in our lives where we still feel the weight of darkness—grief, uncertainty, fear, waiting, unanswered prayers. Advent doesn’t tell us to pretend these places don’t exist. It invites us to bring them to the One who enters them with us.
Hope is not the absence of struggle. Hope is the presence of Jesus.

Living Out Hope This Week
Here are a few ways we challenged each other to practice hope actively this week:

Recall God’s past faithfulness when present circumstances feel heavy
Memorize Isaiah 9:6–7 to anchor your heart
Pause each day to say, “Jesus, be my Light today”
Serve someone in need as an expression of God’s light
Choose stillness—embrace moments of quiet to listen for God’s voice

Hope grows when practiced.

A Community of Hope
As a church, we also prayed for one another—those struggling through darkness, those learning to wait on God, those longing for peace. Advent reminds us that hope isn’t something we carry alone. We hold it together as a community.
We shine brighter when we shine together.

Advent calls us to slow down. To breathe. To remember that God is still writing the story. Isaiah’s words remind us that God’s promises are not fragile—they are unstoppable. “The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.”
As you journey through this season, may hope rise in you again. Not the hope that wishes, but the hope that knows.
Not the hope built on circumstances, but the hope built on Christ.
Not the hope that flickers, but the hope that shines.

The Messiah has come.

The King will return.

And in Him, hope is alive.

The cold baptismal water was intentional that Sunday morning. Not to shock the body, but to awaken the soul. As new believers emerged from the water, gasping and rejoicing, something profound was declared: the old life was buried, and resurrection had come.
But what happens after we rise from those waters? How do we navigate relationships in a world that operates by completely different rules than the Kingdom of God?

The Landscape Has Changed

Our generation finds itself at a crossroads. Millennials grew up during the rise of hookup culture, where 78% believed casual intimacy on a first date was not just acceptable but beneficial. Relationships became transactions. Commitment became optional. Love became conditional.
Yet something remarkable is happening. The younger generation is pushing back. They're rejecting the emptiness of situationships and the confusion of undefined relationships. They're asking a question that echoes through church halls and college campuses alike: "There has to be another way, right?"
The answer is a resounding yes. But it requires us to be built different.

The Foundation: Equally Yoked

Second Corinthians 6:14 poses a question that cuts through cultural noise: "What fellowship can light have with darkness?" This isn't about judgment. It's about foundation. You cannot build a lasting structure on mismatched materials. You cannot create harmony when the fundamental frequencies are opposed.
Before we ever swipe right or accept a dinner invitation, we must ask ourselves: Does this person share my commitment to following Jesus? Not spirituality. Not good vibes. Not "they believe in something." Do they read their Bible? Do they serve in their church? Are they actively pursuing Christ?
Shared values aren't a nice-to-have in dating. They're the very ground on which everything else is built.

Know Yourself Before You Know Someone Else

There are six critical categories of values every person should examine before entering a relationship:

Family and Friends: How important is family to you? Do you envision having children? These aren't third-date conversations; they're essential discussions during the dating phase.

Work and School: What are your aspirations? Your work ethic? Your vision for your career? Financial compatibility isn't about income; it's about shared vision and values around provision and purpose.

Health: Physical, emotional, and mental health matter. We've normalized hiding our struggles, then acting shocked when they surface years into a commitment. Healing is ongoing, but honesty must be immediate.

Relationships: What does commitment mean to you? What are your expectations? What does healthy partnership look like in your mind?

Faith: This is non-negotiable for believers. What do you stand for? What are you rooted in? When culture shifts and storms come, what keeps you anchored?

Leisure: What brings you joy? How do you cope with stress? What are your hobbies? Life isn't meant to be constant suffering. We need to know how to experience joy together.
Not everyone values all six categories equally, but your top three should be crystal clear before you pursue anyone romantically.

The HALT Principle

When you're hungry, angry, lonely, or tired, pause before making life-altering decisions. Our flesh wants to move quickly when we're uncomfortable. Loneliness whispers that any relationship is better than no relationship. Exhaustion tells us to take the easy path. Anger pushes us toward revenge or rash choices.

But God calls us to something higher. Before you say yes to that relationship, before you move in together, before you compromise your values because you're afraid of being alone—HALT. Stop. Pray. Seek God's face. Let Him lead your decisions, not your desperation.

Intentionality Over Impulse

Dating in the Kingdom isn't about filling a void. It's not about having someone to post cute pictures with on social media. It's not about escaping loneliness or proving your worth.
Dating must be an intentional pursuit with marriage as the end goal.

If companionship without commitment is what you're after, you don't need a boyfriend or girlfriend. You need a friend. Maybe a pet. But don't call it dating if you're not willing to set a date—a wedding date, that is.

This intentionality means having hard conversations early. Within the first three to six months, you should know whether this relationship is worth the effort. Every relationship requires work, but you should be able to discern: Is this person moving in the same direction? Are our values aligned? Is God honored in how we treat each other?

Truth Over Comfort

Here's a hard truth: A difficult truth spoken in love is better than a well-intended lie.
If you know a relationship isn't working, honor that person as a son or daughter of God by telling the truth. Don't string them along because you're afraid of how the breakup will look. Don't stay because you're addicted to companionship. Don't lie to protect your image on social media.

Every interaction, every decision, every conversation must come from a posture of honoring God. This includes how you break up with someone. You don't get to drag their name through the mud. You don't get to seek revenge. You don't get to line up the next relationship before ending the current one.

Vengeance belongs to the Lord. Walk away with integrity.

The Myth of Fully Healed

We all carry baggage. Every single one of us has been wounded, has made mistakes, has areas where we're still growing. The myth that someone must be "fully healed" before they are worthy of love is a lie that keeps people isolated and ashamed.

Healing is ongoing. What matters is whether someone is actively pursuing wholeness, whether they're honest about their struggles, whether they're committed to growth.

We are blessings wrapped in baggage. When Christ unpacks our baggage, others get to behold the blessing. God doesn't see us as the world sees us. He looks at the heart. He transforms stories. He makes all things new.

From Potential to Promise

In the early stages of dating, it's easy to focus on potential. They could be a great spouse. We could have a good life together. But you must move from potential to patterns to promise.

Watch how they handle conflict. Notice whether they tell the truth. Observe how they treat others when nothing is at stake. Patterns reveal character. And character determines whether the promise of marriage will be a blessing or a burden.

A Declaration of New Life
As each person emerged from the baptismal waters that Sunday, they declared something powerful: I am no longer who I was. The old is gone. The new has come.
This is the foundation for everything else—friendships, dating, marriage, purpose. When we are made new in Christ, we operate by different rules. We love differently. We date differently. We commit differently.

We are built different.

And in a world desperate for authentic love and lasting commitment, being built different isn't just countercultural. It's revolutionary.

Earning Crowns for Jesus: Living for Eternity, Not Just the Moment

There's something powerful about understanding that our lives are meant for more than just getting by. We're not simply existing, waiting for Sunday to roll around so we can check the "church attendance" box. We're running a race—one that requires intentionality, sacrifice, and an unwavering focus on what truly matters.

The Weight of Fingerprints

Think about fingerprints for a moment. When you touch something, you leave a mark. Your hands have been places, done things, created impact. The question isn't whether you'll leave fingerprints on this world—it's what kind of fingerprints will they be?

Fingerprints of compassion. Fingerprints of service. Fingerprints that show you've actually been working, striving, and pouring yourself out for something greater than your own comfort.

If your life has no fingerprints—no scars, no dirt under your fingernails from the hard work of faith—then what exactly are you doing with what God has given you? Salvation is free, absolutely. But what comes after salvation is a journey of purpose, of building something eternal, of earning crowns that you'll one day lay at the feet of Jesus.

The Crowns We're Running For

The Bible speaks of several crowns that believers can earn—not for salvation, but as rewards for faithfulness, endurance, and service. These aren't about pride or competition. They're about living a life so sold out to God that when you stand before Him, you have something tangible to offer back.

The Crown of Life: belongs to those who endure. James 1:12 tells us, "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him." This is the martyr's crown—for those who remain faithful even when it costs them everything.

Around the world right now, believers are being persecuted for their faith. In the Middle East, China, and Nigeria, Christians are literally giving their lives because they refuse to deny Jesus. While we may not face that level of persecution yet, we still face trials. We face betrayal, disappointment, and circumstances that test whether we'll stand firm or compromise.

The Crown of Righteousness: is for those who keep their hope alive even when the world is upside down. It's for the person who cries out to God all night, uses up an entire box of tissues, pours their heart out over their mistakes—and then gets up the next morning and chooses faith again.

The Crown of Glory: is reserved for those who shepherd others—pastors, teachers, mentors, and leaders who sacrifice themselves so others can grow. These are the people who wake up thinking about how to help someone else get cleaned up spiritually, who invest in discipleship, who care deeply about the spiritual health of those around them.

The Crown of Rejoicing: belongs to the soul winners. This is the crown you earn when you look someone in the eye and ask, "Do you know Jesus?" It's the crown for those who don't wait for people to come to church but instead take Jesus to the streets, to their workplaces, to their neighborhoods.

The Cost of Following Jesus

Here's the uncomfortable truth: if following Jesus doesn't cost you anything, you're probably not really following Him. Real faith requires sacrifice. It demands that you put aside your own agenda, your own comfort, your own reputation.

The House of Bread vision—a place where people can come, smell fresh bread, drink coffee, and spend time in prayer—represents this kind of costly obedience. It's about creating spaces where the spiritually hungry can be fed, where those starving for meaning in a dark world can find sustenance.

But creating such spaces requires fingerprints. It requires showing up, serving, and sometimes getting your hands dirty. It means being there on a Saturday to hand out groceries to families who are afraid to leave their homes. It means bagging food on Monday nights for migrants who need help. It means actually living out the gospel, not just talking about it.

When the World Betrays You

Betrayal is inevitable. Every hand that went up in that room when asked about betrayal tells the same story—we've all been hurt by people we trusted. But here's the freedom: when you understand that the real enemy isn't the person who betrayed you but the spiritual force behind them, you can pray differently.

"Father, they know not what they do."

When you can pray for the freedom of the person who hurt you, you're earning crowns. When you can show compassion to the one who abandoned you, you're growing in spiritual maturity. When someone curses you and you respond with kindness—even when everything in your flesh wants to fight back—you're becoming more like Jesus.

Living With Eternity in View

We're building resumes for the kingdom to come. God is establishing a government, and those who are faithful now are being prepared for roles then. This isn't about floating around heaven doing nothing. It's about being entrusted with real responsibility in God's eternal kingdom.

But you can't build that resume with one foot in the world and one foot in the faith. You can't negotiate with God about how much control He gets. It's all or nothing. Either He has complete access to your life, or He doesn't really have you at all.

The Power of the Blood

At the communion table, we remember that Jesus' body was broken and His blood was shed for us. This isn't just a religious ritual—it's a powerful reminder that without His sacrifice, we are nothing. The blood of Jesus is more than enough to forgive every sin, heal every brokenness, and resurrect every dead thing in our lives.

When we plead the blood over our families, our circumstances, our struggles, we're accessing the most powerful force in the universe. That blood saves, heals, and delivers. It's the only thing that can truly transform a human heart.

What Will They Say at Your Funeral?

One day, people will gather to remember your life. What will they say? Will they talk about how much money you made, how successful you were, how comfortable your life was? Or will they stand up, one after another, and testify about how you loved them, served them, pointed them to Jesus?

The goal isn't to be perfect. We all fall short. We all have moments when we respond in the flesh instead of in the Spirit. But the trajectory of our lives should be clear—we're running toward Jesus, not away from Him.

The Invitation

So here's the question: What needs to be cut off? What relationship, habit, or distraction is keeping you from running your race with excellence? God isn't asking for perfection, but He is asking for wholehearted devotion.

Take a deep breath. Let the noise in your brain settle. Ask God to search your heart and show you what needs to change. He's as soft as a whisper, but His voice carries the weight of eternity.

The race is on. The finish line is ahead. And when you cross it, may you hear those beautiful words: "Well done, good and faithful servant."

What crowns will you lay at His feet?

Becoming Bold: Finding Peace in God's Supernatural Power

In a world filled with chaos and uncertainty, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless. We often find ourselves frantically trying to control every aspect of our lives, building walls and setting boundaries in an attempt to find peace. But what if true peace comes not from our own efforts, but from surrendering to a higher power?

The story of Joshua and the Gibeonites offers a powerful lesson in trust and divine intervention. When the Gibeonites, who had made a covenant with Israel, were attacked by five Amorite kings, they called out to Joshua for help. Without hesitation, Joshua mobilized his entire army, including his best warriors, to defend their allies. This wasn't just a military strategy; it was a demonstration of covenant faithfulness.

As the battle raged on, something extraordinary happened. God intervened in a spectacular fashion, raining down large hailstones on the enemy, killing more of them than the Israelites did with their swords. But the divine assistance didn't stop there. In a moment that has captivated readers for centuries, Joshua called out to God, asking Him to make the sun stand still over Gibeon and the moon over the Valley of Aijalon. And miraculously, the celestial bodies obeyed, providing the Israelites with extended daylight to complete their victory.

This incredible account isn't just a tale of ancient warfare. It's a profound illustration of how God fights for those who put their trust in Him. When we face seemingly insurmountable odds, when the enemy surrounds us on all sides, our first instinct might be to rely on our own strength or to retreat behind our carefully constructed defenses. But God is calling us to a bolder faith.

Consider the challenges you're facing right now. Perhaps it's a troubled relationship, a health crisis, or financial uncertainty. The enemy often attacks us in areas where we thought we had already found peace, trying to disrupt our equilibrium and lead us into chaos. In these moments, we have a choice: we can either frantically try to regain control or we can cry out to God for help.

The Gibeonites' simple plea – "Help us!" – is a powerful example of the kind of vulnerable faith God desires from us. It's not a sign of weakness to admit we need divine intervention. On the contrary, it's an act of tremendous courage and wisdom to recognize that some battles are too big for us to fight alone.

When we surrender our struggles to God, we open the door for Him to work in supernatural ways. Just as He made the sun and moon stand still for Joshua, God can manipulate time and circumstances on our behalf. He can give us more time when we feel like we're running out of options. He can provide resources we never thought possible. He can heal relationships we thought were beyond repair.

But to experience this kind of divine intervention, we must be willing to let go of our own control. Too often, we set up boundaries and rules in an attempt to protect ourselves, only to find that we've become imprisoned by our own defenses. God is calling us to trade our self-imposed limitations for His boundless peace.

This doesn't mean that following God will always be easy or comfortable. Sometimes, the path to peace leads through difficult terrain. We might lose a job, face a health scare, or experience relational turmoil. In these moments, it's crucial to remember that God's peace isn't the absence of trouble; it's the presence of His power in the midst of our struggles.

The command given to Joshua – "Do not be afraid" – wasn't just a comforting pat on the back. It was a strategic directive, a key part of the battle plan. Fear can paralyze us, keeping us from stepping out in faith and experiencing God's miraculous provision. When we choose to trust God instead of giving in to fear, we position ourselves to witness His power at work in our lives.

As we navigate life's challenges, let's cultivate a habit of surrender. Instead of trying to fight every battle on our own, let's learn to quickly cry out, "Help me, Holy Spirit!" This simple prayer can activate God's power in our lives in ways we never imagined possible.

Remember, the God who controls the sun and moon, who rains down hailstones from heaven, and who gives victory against impossible odds is the same God who loves you and fights for you today. He is your champion, your defender, and your peace.

So, what areas of your life do you need to surrender to God today? Where have you been relying on your own strength instead of trusting in His power? Take a moment to open your hands and release those burdens to Him. Invite Him to fight your battles and to bring His supernatural peace into every area of your life.

As you do this, you may find that God doesn't always remove the challenges you face. Sometimes, He chooses to walk with you through them, demonstrating His power in the midst of your weakness. But one thing is certain: when you place your trust in Him, you will experience a peace that surpasses all understanding – a bold, unshakeable confidence that comes from knowing the Creator of the universe is on your side.

So today, let's choose to become bold – not in our own strength, but in our reliance on God's unlimited power. Let's trade our boundaries for His peace, our fear for His courage, and our limited perspective for His eternal wisdom. As we do, we'll discover that true peace isn't found in controlling our circumstances, but in surrendering them to the One who holds all things in His hands.

Becoming Bold: The Power of God's Presence and the Call to Consecration

In our spiritual journey, we often find ourselves at a crossroads, facing battles both within and without. But there's a profound truth we must grasp: our access to the throne of God is not just a privilege; it's the very foundation of our identity in Christ. As adopted sons and daughters, we have been given an all-access pass to the Father, allowing us to boldly enter His presence without restrictions or limitations.

This adoption opens doors to our identity and secures our place in God's family. Just as children have legal access to their parents' legacy, we have access to all that God has built and prepared for us. This isn't just about our personal benefit; it's about building a future that extends beyond ourselves to impact those around us.

However, access alone isn't enough. Before we enter into any battle, we must consecrate ourselves. Consecration brings about the presence and power of God in our lives. It's not enough to have just a sprinkle of faith or a touch of Christianity. True consecration means being all in, allowing the anointing to flow and God's presence to take center stage in our lives.

The story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho beautifully illustrates this principle. God gave specific instructions to Joshua: march around the city for six days with seven priests carrying trumpets in front of the Ark of the Covenant. On the seventh day, they were to march seven times, blow the trumpets, and shout. These weren't just arbitrary commands; they were designed to keep God's presence at the forefront of their mission.

The Ark represented God's presence, and the instruction was clear: let God go before you into battle. This is a key lesson for us today. We may already have the victory, but we need to walk through the process with the right posture – acting, talking, and carrying ourselves as if we've already won.

When the Israelites followed these instructions faithfully, the walls of Jericho fell, and victory was theirs. God gave them possession of everything available, but with one crucial condition: it all belonged to Him. They were to seize it and give it back to God.

However, human nature often gets in the way. In the midst of battle and victory, pride can rise up, making us feel like we've won by our own strength instead of acknowledging the One who secured the victory before we even began. This pride can block God's presence and power in our lives, leading to defeat – as we see in the subsequent battle at Ai.

The Israelites, fresh from their victory at Jericho, approached the smaller town of Ai with overconfidence. They sent a small force, believing it would be an easy win. Instead, they were soundly defeated and chased away. This loss wasn't just a military setback; it introduced fear into the camp and even caused Joshua to falter.

But God's response to Joshua's despair is crucial for us to understand: "Get up! There is sin in the house." Sometimes, when breakthrough doesn't come, when our prayers seem unanswered, there may be unrepentant sin blocking God's work in our lives.

This truth hit home for one leader who shared a personal story of delayed progress due to a lack of faith. Despite serving God, he realized he had been trusting in human efforts and resources rather than in God alone. It wasn't until he fully surrendered and said, "Now I trust you," that God began to move powerfully.

The contrast between Jericho and Ai teaches us a vital lesson: when God's presence goes before us, victory is assured. But when sin blocks His presence, defeat is inevitable. This pattern follows us just as it followed Israel. We must be willing to give God everything so His presence and power can lead us.

So, what does this mean for us today? It's time for honest self-reflection. Are there hidden sins in our lives that we've been ignoring or trying to hide from God? Have we been living with a casual attitude towards grace, forgetting that it cost the blood of Jesus?

We're called to take our sins seriously and make amends. This isn't about wallowing in guilt, but about clearing the way for God's presence to move powerfully in our lives. Some of us may be on the brink of victory, having been obedient and walking in faith. For others, we might find ourselves in the middle, unsure of where we stand.

Wherever we are, God is calling us to press in. He wants to give us a glimpse of the doors He's about to open, to fill us with His Spirit and increase our faith. He's ready to release His fire – a fire that both consumes and combusts.

This fire consumes our offerings – our lives laid down before Him, our destinies, plans, and dreams submitted to His will. But it also combusts, propelling us forward, accelerating our progress, and advancing us in His purposes.

The enemy of this fire is complacency, comfort, and prioritizing our own desires over the Holy Spirit's leading. We must be people who carry this fire within us, keeping the pilot light burning so that when we need it, we can access what God has prepared for us.

As we close, let's remember that God has the last say in every situation. No matter what we face – persecution, trials, or seeming defeats – He is still in control. Like the Apostle Paul, we can say, "If You want me here to be persecuted, I'm good. But if You want to take me home, I'm good." The world doesn't have the final word; God does.

So today, let's consecrate ourselves anew. Let's allow God's fire to consume everything that's not of Him and to ignite a passion that will drive us forward in His purposes. Let's be a people who carry His presence, who walk in His power, and who trust Him completely – knowing that He always has the last say.

Becoming Bold: Consecration: The Path to Bold Living

In a world that constantly urges us to blend in, to normalize every behavior and desire, there's a powerful call echoing through the ages - a call to be set apart. This isn't about being different for the sake of being unique or standing out. It's about recognizing our true identity as children of God and living in a way that reflects His holiness.

The concept of consecration - taking something common and making it holy - lies at the heart of this transformative journey. We're reminded that the opposite of holy isn't unholy; it's common. As believers, we're called to a life that's anything but common. We've been bought with a price, raised to new life, and our sins have been crucified with Christ. This reality should fundamentally alter how we see ourselves and how we live.

Consider the story of Joshua and the Israelites as they prepared to cross the Jordan River. After years of wandering in the wilderness, they stood on the precipice of the Promised Land. But before they could enter, Joshua gave a crucial command: "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you" (Joshua 3:5).

This wasn't just about external cleansing. It was a call to prepare their hearts, to rid themselves of anything that didn't align with God's will, and to ready themselves for the miraculous. The same call echoes to us today. God is still in the business of doing amazing things, but He's looking for a people who are consecrated and ready.

The Jordan crossing wasn't just a geographical move; it was deeply symbolic. It represented leaving behind the old life of slavery and wandering, and stepping into the promises of God. As the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant stepped into the river, the waters parted, allowing the entire nation to cross on dry ground. This miraculous event was meant to be remembered, which is why Joshua commanded that twelve stones be taken from the riverbed and set up as a memorial.

These stones serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of remembrance in our spiritual lives. We're called to remember where God has brought us from, not with nostalgia or longing, but with gratitude and awe at His delivering power. This kind of remembrance produces momentum, propelling us forward in our faith journey.

However, the call to consecration and holy living often clashes with the world's messages. We're bombarded with ideas that try to normalize sin and rebellion against God. The enemy whispers that we were "born this way" and should accept our sinful nature. But the gospel proclaims a radically different message: "Be born again!" (John 3:3). In Christ, we're new creations. Our old self, with its passions and desires, has been crucified with Christ.

This transformation isn't just about personal holiness; it has a profound impact on our witness to the world. When the Israelites crossed the Jordan in obedience to God, the Bible tells us that the hearts of their enemies "melted in fear" (Joshua 5:1). There's a spiritual reality at play here: when God's people walk in holiness and obedience, it shakes the very foundations of darkness.

Living a consecrated life doesn't mean we'll be perfect. It means we're committed to the process of sanctification - being transformed into the image of Christ. It means we're willing to confront the idols in our lives, whether they're obvious sins or more subtle distractions that take God's rightful place in our hearts.

This process of consecration and transformation is deeply personal. It requires us to take an honest look at our lives and ask: What needs to change? What am I holding onto that's keeping me from fully following Christ? Am I harboring unforgiveness, bitterness, or anger? Am I enslaved to addictions or harmful patterns of behavior?

The good news is that we don't have to clean ourselves up before coming to God. In fact, we can't. True consecration begins with crying out to Jesus, acknowledging our need for His cleansing power. He's already paid the price for our freedom; we simply need to step into it.

As we consecrate ourselves, we're promised that God will do amazing things. Just as He parted the Jordan for the Israelites, He'll make a way where there seems to be no way in our lives. He'll break down walls of resistance, just as He brought down the walls of Jericho. He'll give us victory over enemies that once seemed insurmountable.

But here's the key: we must stay in step with God. The Israelites had to follow the Ark of the Covenant, keeping a reverent distance. Similarly, we're called to follow God's leading closely, neither running ahead in our own strength nor lagging behind in disobedience or fear.

Living a consecrated life isn't about rigid rule-following or joyless sacrifice. It's about experiencing the fullness of life that God intends for us. It's about walking in the freedom that Christ purchased for us on the cross. It's about being part of something bigger than ourselves - God's plan to redeem and restore all of creation.

As we embrace this call to consecration, we'll find ourselves becoming bolder in our faith. We'll be less swayed by the opinions of others and more anchored in the truth of God's Word. We'll be ready to stand firm when challenges come, knowing that the same God who parted the Jordan and brought down Jericho is with us.

Today, the altar is open. The invitation to consecrate ourselves stands. Will we respond? Will we lay down everything that hinders us and step fully into the life God has for us? The promise remains: as we consecrate ourselves, God will do amazing things. Let's prepare our hearts, for tomorrow - and every day after - holds the potential for miracles.

Becoming Bold: Full Access: Embracing God's Call with Courage and Faith

In the journey of faith, we often find ourselves at crossroads, facing challenges that seem insurmountable. Yet, it is precisely in these moments that we are called to remember a powerful truth: we have full access to God's promises and His strength. This message of courage and faith echoes through the ages, from the time of Joshua to our present day.

The story of Joshua serves as a compelling reminder of what it means to step into God's calling with unwavering trust. As Moses' successor, Joshua faced the daunting task of leading the Israelites into the Promised Land. The obstacles were many – fortified cities, hostile enemies, and the weight of following in the footsteps of a revered leader. Yet, God's command to Joshua rings clear: "Be strong and courageous."

This phrase, repeated multiple times in the first chapter of Joshua, wasn't just a casual encouragement. It was a divine imperative, a call to action rooted not in self-confidence, but in the promises of God. The Lord assured Joshua, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." This promise of God's constant presence was the foundation upon which Joshua's courage was built.

But what does it mean for us today to "be strong and courageous"? It's about facing our fears head-on, stepping out in faith even when the path ahead seems uncertain. It's about recognizing that our strength comes not from our own abilities, but from our connection to the Almighty.

Consider the metaphor of ziplining across a mountain range. The fear of heights, the wind shaking the platform, the vast expanse below – all of these can paralyze us with fear. Yet, when we hear the voice of someone we trust saying, "I'm here for you," it gives us the courage to take that leap. In the same way, God calls us to trust His voice, to take that leap of faith, knowing He will catch us and guide us safely through.

This courage is not just about facing physical challenges. It's about confronting the spiritual and emotional giants in our lives. It's about battling both in the physical and spiritual realms, trusting that as we fight our visible battles, God is fighting the invisible ones on our behalf.

The key to accessing this divine courage lies in staying connected to God's Word. As Joshua was instructed, "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful." Our success and prosperity in God's eyes are directly linked to our faithfulness to His Word.

This connection to God's Word gives us access to His wisdom, His plans, and His strength. It builds our faith and assures us of victory – not just in life, but even in death. As believers, we can face even our mortality with courage, knowing that in Christ, we are never alone.

However, this journey of faith is not without its challenges. Opposition often serves as an indicator that God is on the move in our lives. It's in these moments of resistance that our faith is tested and refined. The story of a pastor whose house burned down just six months after committing to ministry illustrates this point. Instead of giving up, he and his wife chose to establish a ministry in the rebuilt house. This act of faith in the face of adversity became the foundation for a thriving church community.

Sometimes, God's plans unfold in ways we least expect. A loading dock became the means for a church to minister to people in Puerto Rico and Chicago. Bathrooms built for one purpose became essential for another ministry entirely. These stories remind us that God's vision is often larger and more comprehensive than our own limited perspective.

As we face our own challenges, we must remember that opposition is not a sign of God's absence, but often an opportunity for His power to be displayed. It's in these moments that we must decide which side of the "asymptote" we will stand on – will we retreat in the face of difficulty, or will we cross over in faith, allowing God to take us further?

This journey of faith also requires honest self-reflection. We must be willing to look in the mirror and confront our own weaknesses, fears, and doubts. It's in acknowledging our limitations that we open ourselves up to God's limitless power. As one pastor shared, he looks in the mirror daily, admitting his weaknesses to God, but then declaring, "Not my will, but yours be done."

The promise of "full access" to God's power and presence comes with a caveat – it's contingent on our connection to Him. When we're connected, we have all access. When we're disconnected, we're limited. This truth challenges us to maintain a constant, vibrant relationship with God, staying rooted in His Word and attuned to His voice.

As we embrace this call to courage and faith, we're reminded that God often works in prophetic cycles. Just as He fulfilled His promises to Joshua and the Israelites, He continues to fulfill His promises in our lives today. The key is to remain faithful, even when we don't understand the full picture.

In conclusion, we are called to be a people of courage and faith, fully accessing the promises and power of God. We're challenged to face our fears, confront our weaknesses, and step out in obedience to God's call. As we do, we can trust that He is with us, fighting our battles, opening doors, and fulfilling His purposes in and through our lives.

Let us, therefore, be strong and courageous. Let us meditate on God's Word day and night. Let us trust in His presence and His promises. And let us step out in faith, knowing that we have full access to all that God has for us. In doing so, we'll discover that our lives can become testimonies of God's faithfulness and power, impacting not just our generation, but generations to come.

Becoming Bold: Serving God in a World of Compromise

In a world that often pushes us towards compromise and conformity, how do we as believers stand firm in our faith? How do we navigate the increasing darkness around us while remaining true to God's calling? These are questions that demand our attention as we seek to live out our faith boldly in today's complex society.

The story of Joshua and the Israelites offers profound insights into this challenge. After years of wandering in the wilderness, they stood on the precipice of the Promised Land. But entering that land meant confronting the pagan cultures that inhabited it – cultures steeped in idolatry and detestable practices.

Joshua's powerful declaration rings out across the centuries: "But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15)
This moment of decision is just as relevant for us today. We too live in a land where competing ideologies and false gods vie for our allegiance. The world around us often promotes values and practices that are in direct opposition to God's Word. How do we respond?

First, we must recognize the nature of the battle. The Canaanites and Amorites worshipped a pantheon of false gods – El, Baal, Asherah, and others. These weren't merely abstract concepts, but demonic forces that demanded horrific acts of worship, including child sacrifice and sexual immorality. Today's idols may look different on the surface, but at their core, they still represent rebellion against the one true God.

We see this in the relentless push to redefine morality, in the exaltation of self above all else, and in ideologies that seek to usurp God's authority over life, death, and human identity. The enemy's tactics haven't changed – he still seeks to draw people away from God through deception and false promises.

But here's the crucial point: God doesn't call us to retreat in the face of this darkness. Instead, He empowers us to be agents of light and transformation. Remember the words of 2 Corinthians 3:17 - "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." We carry that freedom-bringing presence of God wherever we go!

This requires bold faith. It means being willing to stand firm on God's truth, even when it's unpopular or misunderstood. It means loving our neighbors while refusing to compromise on biblical principles. It means having the courage to speak out against injustice and evil, guided by God's wisdom rather than political ideologies.

Boldness doesn't mean aggression or self-righteousness. Instead, it flows from a deep, unshakeable confidence in God's power and promises. When Joshua declared his household's allegiance to the Lord, he did so remembering all that God had done for Israel. He recounted how God had delivered them from Egypt, protected them in the wilderness, and brought them into the Promised Land.

We too can draw strength from God's faithfulness. Think of the times He's brought you through impossible situations, the prayers He's answered, the way He's provided when all seemed lost. Our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is still on the throne, still working miracles, still delivering His people.

This assurance allows us to step out in faith, knowing that even if the whole world stands against us, we are on the winning side. As the song declares, "Joy is coming, victory is coming!" Our boldness isn't based on our own strength, but on the unshakeable promise that God is with us.

Living boldly for God also requires a willingness to lay down our own agendas and desires. It means submitting every area of our lives to His lordship. We can't claim to serve God while clinging to worldly values or compromising on His commands. As Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commands." (John 14:15)

This total surrender is challenging, but it's the path to true freedom and purpose. When we align our lives fully with God's will, we experience His power working through us in amazing ways. We become conduits of His love, grace, and transforming power to a world in desperate need.

So, how do we cultivate this kind of bold faith in our daily lives?

Saturate yourself in God's Word. Let scripture shape your worldview and guide your decisions.
Cultivate a vibrant prayer life. Seek God's presence continually, allowing His Spirit to empower and direct you.

Be willing to take Spirit-led risks. Step out in faith when God calls, even if it means leaving your comfort zone.
Stand firm in the face of opposition. Remember that your ultimate allegiance is to God, not to human approval.
Look for opportunities to be a light. Seek ways to demonstrate God's love and truth in your sphere of influence.
Stay humble and dependent on God. True boldness flows from recognizing our own weakness and relying fully on His strength.

The call to bold faith isn't always easy, but it's the path to experiencing God's power and seeing His kingdom advance. As we choose daily to serve the Lord wholeheartedly, we become part of a transformative movement that pushes back the darkness and brings hope to a hurting world.

Let's make Joshua's declaration our own: "As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." In a world of compromise and confusion, let's be a people marked by unwavering commitment to God's truth, unshakeable faith in His promises, and bold love for both God and neighbor. This is the kind of faith that changes lives, transforms communities, and leaves a lasting impact for eternity.

Encountering the Glory of God: A Call to Radical Faith

In a world filled with uncertainty and constant change, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and lose sight of what truly matters. But what if we could shift our perspective and see beyond our immediate circumstances? What if we could encounter the glory of God in such a profound way that it transforms how we view everything else?

Imagine standing before the throne of God, witnessing His majesty and power firsthand. This is precisely what the prophet Isaiah experienced, as recorded in Isaiah 6:1: "In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple." This vision came at a time of significant change and potential instability for Israel. Yet in the midst of earthly transitions, Isaiah was granted a glimpse of the unchanging, sovereign God.

This encounter with God's glory didn't just awe Isaiah—it changed him. It shifted his focus from earthly concerns to heavenly realities. And the same can happen for us today when we truly grasp who God is and allow His presence to fill our lives.

Too often, we limit our expectations of what God can do. We pray small prayers, dream small dreams, and live small lives. But the God of the universe, the One who created everything from nothing, is calling us to a radical faith. He's inviting us to believe Him for things so far beyond our reach that only a miracle could make them possible.

This kind of faith isn't about mustering up more willpower or trying harder. It's about surrendering completely to God and allowing Him to work through us in ways we never thought possible. It's about being "radically imprinted" by God—touched by Him and positioned for a special moment, a special task, or a special encounter that leads to breakthrough on the other side.

But make no mistake—this journey of faith isn't easy. It will cost you everything. It requires taking great risks and giving up control of your life to Someone beyond your full understanding. Yet when you do, you discover that what seemed impossible becomes not only possible but deeply fulfilling.

Consider the community transformation that can happen when people of faith dare to dream big and act on those dreams. Where others see abandoned buildings and neglected neighborhoods, those with radical faith see potential and promise. They walk the land, pray over it, and believe God for restoration. They put in the hard work of clearing debris, both physical and spiritual, trusting that God will bring new life to what was once dead.

This is the power of perspective. When we view our circumstances through the lens of God's greatness and goodness, everything changes. What looked like insurmountable obstacles become opportunities for God to display His power. Our personal limitations become platforms for God's strength to be perfected in our weakness.

But how do we cultivate this kind of faith-filled perspective? It starts with worship. When we focus on who God is—His holiness, His power, His love—our problems are put into proper perspective. Like the seraphim Isaiah saw, we begin to cry out, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory" (Isaiah 6:3). This declaration isn't just about acknowledging God's attributes; it's about aligning our hearts with His reality.

As we worship, we're reminded that God is sovereign over every situation. He's not wringing His hands over the state of the world or our personal challenges. He sits enthroned, calm and in control. This truth should fill us with peace and confidence, no matter what we face.

Moreover, encountering God's glory should ignite a passion within us to share His love with others. When we've truly experienced His presence, we can't help but want others to know Him too. We become aware that we carry "the hope of glory" within us—a message that can transform any situation or person.

This outward focus is crucial. It's easy to become self-absorbed in our struggles or even our spiritual experiences. But God calls us to look beyond ourselves, to be His hands and feet in a hurting world. He wants to use us to bring restoration, hope, and life to the "dry bones" around us.

Speaking of dry bones, there's a powerful message for those feeling spiritually parched or lifeless. God is calling out to every area of dryness in our lives, commanding it to come alive. He's rebuking spirits of apathy and lukewarmness, stirring us to choose life over death. If you've been feeling stuck or stagnant, hear this word: It's time to arise, shake off the dust, and allow the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh!

Remember, no matter what your past looks like or what others have said about you, God has a purpose for your life. He delights in taking the unlikely and doing the extraordinary through them. Your current limitations or circumstances don't define your potential in God's kingdom.

As we wrap up, let's revisit the core message: God is calling us to a radical, imprinted faith. He's inviting us to dream bigger, believe stronger, and act bolder than ever before. This isn't about striving in our own strength, but about surrendering fully to His power working through us.

What dreams has God placed in your heart? What seemingly impossible situations are you facing? Bring them before the Lord now. Ask Him to expand your vision and increase your faith. Trust that if He's done amazing things for others, He can do them for you too.

Let's commit to living with an eternal perspective, knowing that our temporary struggles pale in comparison to the glory that awaits us. Let's choose to see beyond our immediate circumstances to the God who holds all things in His hands. And let's step out in faith, allowing God to use us to bring His kingdom to earth in powerful, transformative ways.
The invitation is clear: Will you allow yourself to be radically imprinted by God? Will you say yes to His call, even when it doesn't make sense to your natural mind? The journey may be challenging, but the destination is worth it. A life fully surrendered to God is the most adventurous, fulfilling life possible.

So today, let's echo the words of Isaiah when he encountered God's glory: "Here am I. Send me!" (Isaiah 6:8). Let's offer ourselves as willing vessels for God's purposes, trusting that He will equip us for whatever He calls us to do. The world is waiting for people of radical faith to arise. Will you be one of them?
